CALCULATING YOUR NEEDS (examples)

Calculating your requirements can be a daunting task. So we have provided some examples for you to consider.

Water: LONG LIFE

The standard is 1.5Litre soft packs We can fit up to 10 (ten) of these in a 20Litre Black Bucket with lid and handle. This provides 15Litres of long life water for storage per bucket.

The average human requirement is based on 3 (three) litres of drinking water consumption per day to stay hydrated. In addition cooking of freeze dried food packs will consume 0.250ml of water for a single serve and 0.500ml of water for a double serve.Three meals a day of double serves will require 1.5Litres (0.500ml X 3) of water. Naturally staying well hydrated contributes to well being especialy in times of stress.

In summary a couple (two people) will require 6 litres of drinking water (3 litres each) and 1.5L of cooking water a day = 7.5L
7.5L of water per day X times say 30 days in a month = 225L per MONTH (this does not account for any requirements for hygeine (washing)

So for ONE MONTH you would need 15 (fifteen) buckets of LONG LIFE WATER STORED AWAY.

Alternatively you can budget on 3 litres a day (drinking less) inclusive of the 1.5L for cooking and this would require 6 Litres X 30 days = 180Litres which would require only 12 (twelve) 20L buckets.
Approximate costs for one bucket is $8.90 plus GST for the bucket with handle and lid. (you require the black buckets to keep light out of the water)

COST:
Water = $3.50 per 1.5L soft pack times 10 (ten packs) = $33.50 per bucket = $2.23 per litre. (1000ml).
Combined total = $8.90 plus GST = $9.79 plus $33.50 = $43.29 for 15Litres.

REMEMBER this water will last up to 5 Years if storage conditions are followed.

So a MONTH SUPPLY being say 12 BUCKETS = 43.29 X 12 = around $519.00 (for two people). = $2.88 per LITRE.

You can extrapolate for more months (some volume pricing does kick in however) or more people. From the age of 13 onwards you require an adult portion under this age you may need less water per day per person.

Food Rations

Food: LONG LIFE FREEZE DRIED

For two people we would recommend the freeze dried DOUBLE SERVE packs rather than single serves. Although you can mix and match if required.

As stated above you only need to add water to the food pack and heat and you have a nutritous meal. The menu offers variety from breakfast to lunches to main meals. You might budget only on two meals a day initially.

A double serve pack is around $15 each RRP. ($7.50 a meal per person). Naturally we can do better than that. But based on RRP we can budget on two packs per day = 60 double serves per month. (For three meals a day it would be $15 X 3 = $45 per day. You would require around 90 double serves per month).

Naturally you can last on only one meal a day if required. Check out our prices which are generally cheaper than RRP.

In the event of a major catastrophe it is likely that some other food sources may be available over time and water for that matter as well. In which case the freeze dried food rations can be measured out over a longer time frame if required.
